Gemma Mercer obtained her Psychology degree at the University of Northumbria prior to completing her Clinical Psychology doctorate at the University of Manchester in 2007. After completing her training, She completed her Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology in 2012 and is a Full Practitioner Member of the Division of Neuropsychology. Gemma has significant experience of working with people with a range of neurological conditions, in acute, outpatient, and community settings. This experience involves working directly with clients, and as with families, carers and multi-disciplinary teams. Gemma's particular interest lies in the assessment of cognitive impairments to facilitate diagnosis and rehabilitation. Gemma is also a Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor of trainee Clinical Psychologists in the Northwest.
Dr Antonia Kirkby

Antonia Kirkby completed her degree at Manchester University before training in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester in 2000. Antonia has worked at the Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences since 2003, both in inpatient and outpatient neurosurgical and neurology services, and is currently responsible for the provision of a functional disorder service, specifically for non-epileptic attack disorder, for Greater Manchester. Alongside this NHS role, Antonia has worked in private practice since 2006, delivering assessment and rehabilitation for individuals with acquired and traumatic brain injury, functional disorders, and neurological conditions, both individually and through teams. Antonia has a particular interest in client and staff wellbeing, with the introduction of somatic-based treatment strategies forming part of individual’s rehabilitation. Antonia is a Full Practitioner Member of the Division of Neuropsychology having completed her Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology in 2006, and is a Registered Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor (RAPPS), thus providing the supervision of clinical work and doctoral theses of Clinical Psychology trainees across the North West. Antonia has provided medicolegal reports for personal injury claims, forensic assessment, and parenting capacity, since 2006.

Gemma Wall completed her degree at Cardiff University before training in Clinical Psychology at the University of Liverpool in 2007. Following qualification, Gemma’s clinical experience has been developed over a number of years of working in community, residential, in and outpatient settings; as well as in the private sector. Her interests include neurorehabilitation for acquired brain injury, particularly traumatic brain injury and challenge behaviour; working with staff and family teams; and assessment and intervention for people with brain tumour and other neurological conditions. Gemma also has a particular interest in outcome measurement for rehabilitation. Gemma teaches on a number of Doctorate courses in Clinical Neuropsychology. She has recognised teacher status and regularly supervises trainees. Gemma is a Full Practitioner Member of the Division of Neuropsychology having completed her Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology and is a Registered Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor (RAPPS).
Dr LEANNE DANIELS

Leanne graduated with an Applied Psychology degree from Liverpool John Moores University and went on to pursue a Certification in the same at the University of Manchester. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Lancaster University in 2006 and focused on neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation. Throughout her career, she has worked with people whose lives have been affected by a range of neurological conditions; with a particular focus on those who have suffered the effects of acquired brain injury. Leanne has worked across acute and outpatient hospital settings whilst most recently focusing on psychology led intensive residential and community rehabilitation; including direct therapy sessions, complex mental capacity assessments, multidisciplinary team collaboration and a focus on the role of families and carers. She has a long-standing interest in people living life after stroke and continues to contribute to this area via research at the University of Central Lancashire.

Her experience to date has afforded a wide range of experience in both clinical and research settings, with a focus on improving services in the field of neuropsychology. She enjoys research and has continued to pursue her research interests throughout her studies.

Dani obtained a first-class honour’s degree in Psychology from the University of Manchester. After completing the Clinical Psychology doctorate at the University of Lancaster (2018), she gained further experience supporting individuals, and teams, to manage a wide range of mental health conditions. Currently, Dani works full-time in the NHS in a functional disorder service, specifically for individuals experiencing non-epileptic attack disorder (NEAD). Dani has been working in the NEAD service for a number of years and has completed additional training to supplement her therapy skills. Dani is experienced in delivering trauma-informed therapy and is EMDR certified. Dani is also experienced in delivering teaching about NEAD, to other healthcare professionals including clinical psychology trainees and trainee paramedics.
Dr LINDSAY SHANNON

Lindsay completed her Psychology BSc degree at the University of Liverpool in 2013 and went on to complete her Clinical Psychology doctorate training at Lancaster University in 2020. Lindsay is currently finalising her post-graduate diploma (PGDip) in Clinical Neuropsychology at Glasgow University. Throughout her working career, Lindsay has gained experience in both residential and community neuro-rehabilitation and also provided assessment and intervention within both inpatient and outpatient neuropsychology services too. Lindsay has particular experience in traumatic brain injury (TBI) on which she also conducted her doctorate thesis and has contributed to several publications and clinical texts in the field. Lindsay works as a Clinical Psychologist in neuro-rehabilitation within the NHS part-time and is passionate about supporting individuals and their families with the often life-changing consequences of a neurological condition.
She is recently published in the application of psychological therapy following TBI and is experienced in supporting psychological adjustment to other neurological conditions such as stroke and multiple sclerosis too.

Dr CLAIRE STEELE

Claire has worked in the NHS since 2014 in various clinical positions across inpatient, outpatient and community mental health and acquired brain injury settings. Claire completed her Psychology Bachelor’s Degree at Lancaster University in 2011, before completing a Master’s Degree through the University of Manchester in Cognitive Brain Imaging. Claire then went on to qualify and complete her clinical doctorate at the University of Manchester in 2019 and when qualified, began working in the Department of Clinical Neuropsychology at Salford Royal Hospital. She specialises in working with those with functional neurological disorders and acquired brain injury, which involves neuropsychological assessment, formulation and intervention with those with a range of neurological conditions. Claire works directly with individuals and clinical groups, but also systematically with families and care teams. Claire completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology through the University of Glasgow in 2022 and is currently working towards the specialised Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN).
Claire lectures on the Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster doctoral training courses, as well as student paramedic training courses on the topic of functional neurological disorder. She also supervises trainees on the North West Clinical Psychology Doctorate courses.

Dr CARA THOMPSON

Cara obtained her Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Staffordshire University in 2018 and is currently completing the MSc in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Glasgow. Cara has worked in a variety of clinical settings and throughout the neuro-rehabilitation pathway, from very early hyperacute rehabilitation through to outpatient and community settings. She regularly works with individuals, their families and care teams, with a range of neurological conditions including acquired brain injury, degenerative neurological conditions, and brain tumours. She is also experienced in providing assessment and consultation within the context of complex mental health difficulties. Cara has completed additional psychological therapy training and regularly uses third wave cognitive behaviour therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) in her therapeutic work. Cara also provides teaching, research supervision, and placements to Trainee Clinical Psychologists within her NHS roles.

Chris gained his Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology degree at the University of Chester before later moving to the University of Sheffield to complete his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (ClinPsyD). Since qualifying he has gained further experience of working with people with a range of neurological conditions across the lifespan. He currently works as a Senior Clinical Psychologist within an NHS neuropsychology service in addition to independent practice. He has published several peer-reviewed articles concerning the effectiveness of psychological interventions. He lectured on the University of Sheffield’s Clinical Psychology doctorate and supervises six DClinPsy thesis projects.

Jennifer gained her Psychology degree at Lancaster University before completing the Clinical Psychology training programme at the University of Liverpool. She works as a Clinical Psychologist in a Neuropsychology service and is currently completing a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology.
